How to Renew

There are several steps required to renew your 2019 active-practising licence:

  1. Complete the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) requirements
  2. Log into the Member Portal. Click here if you cannot log into the portal.
  3. Complete the Application for Licence to Practise Nursing in the Member Portal
  4. Pay the licence renewal fee. Your application will not be processed until payment is received. This step does not apply to you if you are on payroll deduction and your employer submits the fees directly to CRNNS.   5. Check your licence status on the Licence Status Check. Click here to learn more about how long it might take to process your application.

Access to the Member Portal

You must log into the Member Portal to access the licence renewal application.To safeguard your information, the portal is password protected and you must have your CRNNS registration number and personal password to log in and renew your licence. Licence Renewal Calendar: Important Dates and Deadlines

There are important renewal dates to keep in mind to ensure that you have renewed your licence before November 1.

JULY 16: the 2019 licence renewal opens. Starting on this date, you can renew your licence for the 2019 licensure year.
SEPTEMBER 4: You must renew your licence by this date if you are on payroll deduction and your employer submits the fee directly to us. If you do not renew by this date, your employer will not submit your fee directly to us on your behalf. Click here to learn more about payroll deduction.
SEPTEMBER 14: If you are an employer and have a payroll deduction plan, you must submit the renewal fees to CRNNS by this date.
OCTOBER 1: If you renew by this date, you will have your name entered to win the amount of your 2019 licence renewal fee.
OCTOBER 15: If you pay the fee yourself or are on payroll deduction and your employer reimburses you, you must renew by this date to guarantee that your licence is processed by October 31. This is due to the high volume of renewal applications submitted in October.
OCTOBER 31: the 2018 licence expires.
NOVEMBER 1: You must hold a 2019 licence on this date in order to work as an RN or NP in Nova Scotia on November 1.
