If you’re interested in re-entering the nursing profession in Nova Scotia or you do not meet the currency of competency requirement you have the option to successfully complete either a re-entry program or a competence assessment and bridging education.

You may also be eligible to complete a re-entry program or a competence assessment and bridging education if you are an internationally educated nurse whose nursing program is not equivalent to a Nova Scotia nursing program.

How do I apply for a re-entry program?

There are several steps required to apply for a re-entry program:

  1. Complete the Application for Permission to take RN-PDC re-entry and Consent for Release of Information
    1. If you’ve been previously registered in Nova Scotia: You must also complete the Assessment for Reactivation Licence form
    2. If you have never been registered in Nova Scotia: You must complete the Application for Initial Registration Assessment on the New Applicant Portal

We will copy you on the email sending your pertinent information to the Registered Nurses Professional Development Centre. You can then contact them to discuss starting your program.

It’s important to note that once you complete your nursing re-entry program CRNNS will be sent a letter from RN-PDC.

How do I apply for a competence assessment?

There are several steps required to apply for a competence assessment:

  1. Complete the Application to Complete a Competence Assessment and the Consent for Release of Information
  2. Also complete and email us one of the following forms:
    1. If you’ve been previously registered in Nova Scotia: You must also complete the Assessment for Reactivation Licence form.
