Nova Scotia’s Drug Information System Update

The Nova Scotia Drug Information System has been fully implemented across Nova Scotia, with all community pharmacies now connected to the system. Access to the DIS to view and manage patient medication information is available to health care providers across the province in community and hospital settings.

The DIS Portal allows Nurse Practitioners to view and update a patient’s information, and to e-prescribe – to electronically create prescriptions that any pharmacy can retrieve and fill.  e-Prescriptions are valid for any prescription in Nova Scotia, including monitored drugs.

Registered Nurses can access the DIS through the SHARE Clinical Portal (read access only) or through the DIS Portal to view and update a patient’s medication Information.

The goal of the Drug Information System is to make a patient’s medication information available where and when it is needed to the health care providers in the patient’s circle of care, and to allow those providers to contribute information as appropriate.

Please send an email to if you have any questions, or would like to request access as a Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse.

This message has been distributed on behalf of the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness.
