Get Involved: Apply to be a Member of the NP Committee

CRNNS is currently looking for a nurse practitioner (NP) who works with the Family/All Ages client population to apply to be a member of the NP Committee.

As a member of this committee, you will participate in conducting competence assessments of NPs and make recommendations, determine appropriate actions and monitor and evaluate the CRNNS Competence Assessment tool.

The work of this committee directly impacts practising NPs in Nova Scotia, along with the regulatory processes in place to ensure that NPs are providing safe, competent care. If you meet the criteria and have the time, we encourage you to apply and take part in this exciting and influential work.

About the Committee

Specifically, the work of this NP Committee includes:

  • Conducting competence assessments for NPs or applicants for an NP licence when an NP has changed practice settings or is working with a different client population or when an assessment is required by the RN Act or Regulations.
  • Requesting an NP to take appropriate remedial action in the event the committee finds in the course of a competence assessment that the NP may not be practising in accordance with the standards or the competencies established for NPs.
  • Recommending to Council a competence assessment program
  • Monitoring and evaluating the competence assessment program approved by Council.
  • Advising and making recommendations to the Council on policies for licensing of nurse practitioners.

Time Commitment

This committee meets each month for a two-hour meeting, plus extra preparation time to review additional materials. This may require 4-8 hours per month for this work. However, committee members are compensated for their time through an honorarium.
