The CRNNS Council is currently composed of 15 individuals.  In 2015, Council approved a transition to a smaller competency-based Council. This transition starts in 2016 and will be completed when the 2017 terms commence:

  • 9 registered nurses (will be reduced to six in 2016 and 2017)
    • President
    • President-Elect
    • Councillors-at-Large (1) (will be phased out in 2016 and 2017)
    • District Councillors (6) (will be reduced to four in 2016 and 2017)
  • 5 public representatives (will be reduced to three in 2016 and 2017)
  • 1 nursing student (non-voting)
  • Chief Executive Officer and Registrar (ex-officio)

Of the registered nurses, the President and President-Elect are elected through a provincial election, and the other district councillors are elected by members within the CRNNS districts (Central, Eastern, Northern and Western). District elections are held annually, with only two districts voting in any given year.

In accordance with the Registered Nurses Act, there must be a minimum of 33% non-member (public) representation on the Council. These public representatives are appointed to Council.


Terms of Office

Starting in 2016, the term of office for elected Council members is three years, with the exception of the President who is expected to serve two years as President-Elect and then hold the office of President for two years. Council members, with the exception of President and President-Elect, have the option to re-offer for one term.

How do you Nominate a Colleague?

Candidates must be nominated by at least two active-practising members of CRNNS or the Council’s Nominations Committee.
