As members of a self-regulating profession, RNs and NPs establish the profession’s values, the standards for education and practice, and are accountable to uphold those values and standards. The public trusts that nurses will do this with public safety and protection as their highest priority.

Maintaining this trust requires more than just issuing licenses. As the self-regulating body for RNs and NPs in Nova Scotia, CRNNS oversees the practice of nursing and we intervene when public protection demands it. We also support RNs and NPs to uphold their standards and maintain public interest as their top priority. CRNNS helps all Nova Scotians place full trust in the RNs and NPs who care for them, their family and their communities.

Keeping the public’s trust means that standards must be upheld on an ongoing basis. In addition to overseeing the practice of nursing in Nova Scotia, our work supports RNs and NPs’ professional commitment to make public protection their primary goal as self-regulating practitioners.
