Each year, the CRNNS Awards Banquet exudes positive energy and excitement as nurses from across the province are celebrated. To add to the excitement this year, the banquet will include a keynote address from Starr Dobson – a television fan favourite and a mental health advocate in this province. Join us as we listen to her address, recognize our six award recipients and celebrate nursing excellence in Nova Scotia.
Starr’s keynote address, titled “She Is Me, He is Me” will focus on understanding that the word us truly reflects everyone when mental health is the focus. As the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, Starr has dedicated her career to advancing mental health in the community. An acclaimed journalist, best-selling children’s author, and dedicated community volunteer, Starr holds an Honours Journalism Degree from the University of King’s College.
Starr is the Co-Chair of the Minister’s Panel on Innovation in Mental Health & Addictions. She recently received the 2017 Halifax Business Awards Business Person of the Year Silver Award and was named the Rising Star Award Winner at the 2015 Maritime Philanthropy Awards. Starr currently serves on the Together We Can Advisory Committee, as Co-Chair of the Nova Scotia Hospital Back to Our Roots Urban Farm Committee and on the Bell Let’s Talk Community Fund Advisory Committee – Atlantic Region.
Starr writes a monthly column for “Senior Living” and is a regular contributor to “Our Children” magazine. She also serves on the Nova Scotia/ Prince Edward Island St. John Ambulance’s Board of Directors and the Moore Suites Advisory Board. To hear Starr’s keynote address, please register for the 2017 Awards Banquet.
